Custom Joystick input configuration MSFS

Hello Good day

I have an old Switch panel for a TRC cockpit. It is being identified in MSFS (TRC 32Digital IN) and I can see list of buttons as well. but I cannot assign any task to the switches. How Can I assign e.g master switch to button 1 ? (should I create a custom .xml file in the input folder?) And I should mention the switches are two-state on/off switches. not just pushbutton. so msfs should understand the state of the switch

It would be so much more simpler if we could manually edit/copy/save/backup the xml files indeed:
