Before FS2024 SDK 1.3.4, when I opened the FS20 scene in max 2024 it would ask me if I wanted to convert the FS20 materials to FS24.
As of 1.3.4, the SDK doesn’t ask that at all. What it pops out is that it doesn’t “understand” the 2020 materials and wants me to convert the scene as shown in the image.
If I convert the scene, the materials will be “Microsoft Flight Simulator” but all the properties will be lost so I have to reassign textures and everything else
If I don’t convert the scene, the materials become “Unspecified” and I have to do the materials from scratch
Is there a way to make it work like it was before?
Can you try to uninstall and then install the last sdk core update 0.24.5 for MSFS2020 and try again ?
We added support for 3DS Max 2024 for the exporter.
I tried installing both SDKs in both 3ds maxs this morning and the issue remains the same. Interestingly, I only see FS2020 tools in 2023 and FS2024 tools in 2024.
About the missing msfs2020 exporter in 3dsmax 2024 I’m not sure what is happening.
I tried again and for me it works well.
Be sure to close any 3dsmax instance prior to install the msfs2020 and then uninstall the msfs2020 sdk core. Make sure to remove the folder “Tools” if it’s still there.
Then and only then try again to reinstall the msfs2020 sdk 0.24.5
Hi @Boris,
allow me to chime in here since it’s the same issue like this one here which hasn’t really been adressed. Hands down, the scene converter is broken post SDK 1.2.4.
Upt to 1.2.4 the scene converter would run automatically on opening an FS2020 project, offering to convert to FS2024. Post 1.2.4 only the stock Max scene converter opens. If you bypass this one and run the scene converter from the MSFS 2024 utilities tab it says “scene allready converted”, but that’s a bogus message.
We do not understand your issue, the MSFS2024 scene converter tool says “scene allready converted” because you don’t have anything in your using the MSFS2020 (materials, light…). It only update object instanciated with the MSFS2020 plugin.
Quite obviously we don’t understand each other, @Yasmine
I’ll try to explain again:
Opening an FS2020 scene in Max 2024 with the MSFS 2024 SDK 1.2.4 installed automatically starts the Asobo scene converter.
Opening an FS2020 scene in Max 2024 with any MSFS 2024 SDK version post 1.2.4 installed does not start the Asobo scene converter. Instead the default 3DS Max converter opens which is not what we need.
Aborting the 3ds max scene converter and running the asobo scene converter manually does nothing.
Conclusion:
You can convert an MSFS 2020 scene to MSFS 2024 using MSFS 2024 SDK version 1.2.4.
You can’t convert an MSFS 2020 scene to MSFS 2024 using an MSFS 2024 SDK version post 1.2.4.
I know it’s a 3ds max window, it isn’t normal. In the past versions I remember getting a pop-up asking if I want to convert the materials to FS2024.
I uninstalled the SDK for 2020 and 2024 completely and the plugins remained there -the “Tools” folder wasn’t deleted and macros weren’t cleared from 3ds max. I manually deleted “Tools” and the FS20/FS24 menus are still visible in 3ds max, but don’t work as I’ve uninstalled them.
Re-installing gets the plugins to work correctly, but I’m getting a pop-up saying a couple of macro scripts has been updated and whether I should reload it -clicked yes (FS20 and FS24).
I was going to ask you to do the same thing. As for the uninstall, it’s a 3dsmax issue, 3dsmax does not remove custom UI added by plugins after uninstalling them.
@Mathias Maybe try to do the same thing as @SWS-AlexVletsas and if the issue persists tell us ^^ !
