3ds MAX 2026 not working with latest MSFS SDK plugins/scripts

Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a home-built Cessna simulator and need to create a new cockpit model for the project. It’s been approximately 15 years since I last used 3ds Max, so I’m in the process of getting reacquainted with the software.

I performed a clean installation of 3ds Max 2026 (trial version) along with the latest version of the MSFS SDK. Unfortunately, the SDK does not appear to be functioning correctly. Upon launching 3ds Max, I receive an error message indicating a problem related to a Python script. I can provide a screenshot of the error for reference:

3ds Max Error

To troubleshoot, I downloaded and installed 3ds Max 2024, which I understand is the last known version compatible with the current SDK. However, when attempting to launch 3ds Max 2024, I encounter another error—possibly related to having the 2026 trial version installed. It seems that 2024 refuses to start.

I also tried installing 3ds Max 2023, but experienced the same issue: the application fails to launch and displays a generic error message stating that an error occurred and the program will close, without specifying the cause.

Has anyone successfully managed to run 3ds Max 2026 with the latest MSFS SDK? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Daniel

I am pretty sure 3dsMax 2026 is not supported.
3dsMax 2024 + MSFS plugins work on my side.

I would be you, I will to this:

  1. Close game and 3dsmax
  2. Uninstall the MSFS 2024 SDK Core
  3. Remove your 3dsMax ENU folder
  4. Open 3dsMax to generate the new ENU, the close 3dsMax (not sure if you need this step to be honest)
  5. Install back the MSFS 2024 SDK Core
