Documentation / editor missing and mixing units

Version: 1.6.16.0

Frequency: Consistently

Severity: Low

Bug description:

The documentation and SimObject editor are both missing or mixing units in multiple places. For example, I was trying to take the EFB photo for my plane, but it complained that my wheels were clipping into the ground. So I go to Flight model - Contact points in the SimObject editor to fix it, but it’s really confusing.

The position of the contact point is shown to be in feet, but what units are the Crash velocity, Wheel radius and steering angle in? The editor says nothing, the docs say nothing.

The mixing of the units comes in when I look at the Wheels debug. There the compression is shown in centimeters? So could the wheel stuff also be in centimeters? Or maybe feet because the position was in feet?

This is not totally correct, although the information is not in the page you were looking into, which I have to agree is misleading - as you probably know the SimObject Editor is a simple CFG editor at its root, and the page about “flight_model.cfg” actually provides the units for the fields you mentioned:

I’ll check with the owners of this tool if we could automatically add the units for each field in the interface.

Eric / Asobo

Whoops, sorry. And thanks for pointing me to the page. I hope you can make progress towards having the editor itself already show the units somewhere.
