Floating model and top of bounding box

I want to check if there is some weird bug with floating items known before I make a bug report.

I just bought a new airport (name doesn’t really matter for now) and when loaded in I noticed some floating taxi lights (They where pretty close to the ground in walking mode) and thought it was a bug with the scenery.

Later in the day I tried the same spot again and no floating lights. Spend some time on the models and found the top of the bounding box to be very close to what I saw at floating height.

Reading that there are more of these issues in other scenery (Never had or seen them before myself) addons I wonder if this could be part of the problem?

I’m encountering the same issue with many custom scenery packages (including my own) e.g. many floating models upon arriving at an airport that eventually get shifted vertically after being in their vicinity for some amount of time (ranging from seconds to minutes). I don’t think this is related to the model’s bounding box but rather at how the engine handles vertical offset for objects that are either snapped to ground or placed with a fixed AGL offset. I suspect there is an internal queue and/or scheduled task that periodically goes through these objects and re-positions them whenever the local terrain LOD changes (which IMO depends on the distance from the camera) which appears to be in need of some smarter logic to prevent immersion-breaking visual artifacts in the form of floating and/or suddenly shifting objects in the user’s proximity.

A possibly related issue is MSFS2024 SU4 beta: VectorPlacement - snapping to ground too slow (or not happening at all) .
