Saw this release 2.3.2 glTF-Blender-IO-MSFS-2020.
Is it safe to update my plug-in? Any feedback?
tbh i would wait few more days maybe till next weekend because they might have some sort of bugs, as of now they updated it 3 times since yesterday so there’s probably some issues
Both 2.3.2 and 3.3.0 do not work on my PC with Blender 3.6
Version 1.3.3 does work with Blender 3.6, and that’s my recommendation.
With Blender 4.5, 3.3.0 seems to work. So I would skip 2.3.2, and use 3.3.3 with Blender 4.5 only
To add to this discussion. Do not upgrade an existing project - say 3.6 or 4.2 to 4.5 as 4.5 is an entirely new beast wrt animations. I have had issues there. You may need to update all your animations (read redo) I had trouble with all my armature animations, causing errors.
So should Blender 4.2 and the new 3.3.0 plugin be compatible (or atleast more compatible) with Blender 3.6? I was really looking forward to upgrading the Blender version as it has quite a few QOL updates since 3.6
Whaou. Too many changes makes me scared to break my (modest) workflow based on Blender 3.6 + plugin 1.3.3
I have always suggested that you DO NOT update to a new Blender version, or new ASOBO exporter version, unless there is a feature you cannot live without.
However, if you do update, be prepared to make the necessary changes that will be required with an upgrade.
You will need to review the following:
Keep a backup of your original work (goes without saying)
MSFS Materials - with updates to either Blender or the ASOBO exporter there are changes to the Shader Node structure that will be/should be done. This should just be a matter of reselecting the MSFS Material type in the dropdown. DO NOT Select “Disabled”, as this will remove any parameter changes, you have made. After reselecting the MSFS Material type (ie. standard then reselect standard) - review what the material looks like. There may be a parameter that did not get transferred correctly. This is mostly an issue if you update from a really old exporter and or Blender version.
NLA Animations - with 4.2 and 4.5 Blender is changing the internal structure of how actions/animations are stored. Blender does a good job of bringing forward your animations to the new internal structure, however sometimes it does not work. Mostly armatures/bones have issues.
Make sure you do not have any animation in edit mode - left randomly from previous edits that you forgot to set back to “object” node. - you will see your NLA Track in green and duplicated.
Remove any blank Animation Data - Use the key frame window select all your mesh objects - then menu Track and select “Remove Empty Animation Data”
Ensure you have set the Output properties (printer icon properties panel) Frame Range to frame start to zero (0) to a frame end of (what ever your largest animation is) hopefully you have not made any animations greater than 100 KF. This number is used if you have checked “Limit to Playback Range” in Rest & Ranges.
The larger your animations are the longer it takes for the exporter to export.
These are my recommendations and are not hard and fast rules.
I am very happy to see that ASOBO has updated the 2020 exporter, I have been pleasantly surprised that it’s been updated, Thank-You ASOBO staff.
EDIT: as rhumbaflappy says there are some bugs still. You may need to wait until the week of Oct 20,2025 for an update
Could I already migrate my models to the latest Blender 4.x with the latest version of the ADOBO addon? Have the small bugs been fixed?
This is a tricky question to answer since you do not specify:
I guess the only answer we can make with the limited information you provided is: try for yourself and report any issue you may encounter.
By the way, it is not necessary to write your question in bold.
Best regards,
Eric / Asobo
Admitting I am a freshie here, when trying to activate the add on for blender for model exporting, I cannot get blender to recognize the add on and I get. ‘No module named ‘io_scene_gltf2.blender.imp.gltf2_blender_image’
It is driving me crazy trying to figure this out and to make worse, I can’t seem to figure out how to post a new topic under this subtopic.
Did you follow the instructions in the SDK to install the plugin? If so which of the two?
There is a slight confusion. Since the plugin zip is part of the core download, you can find the zip file there. Or you can download from the git releases section online.
I feel even more dumb, I had downloaded the newest blender and read back to realize i should use 3.6.x so it seemed to work once I had installed that version.
before that I had read through the plugin installation instructions and it was recognizing the windshield wiper add on but not the other
seem to be ok for now, I will continue to explore.
