The following is provided in the SDK for the description of the max_water_depthparameter:
“This parameter is used to set the maximum depth up to which the SimObject will “sink” when on water. For aircraft, this should be set approximately the length of the aircraft.
Default value is 2.”
There are 3 issues with this description:

The units are not mentioned, and

Why should the depth be set to approximately the length of the airplane? What does the length of the airplane have to do with how far it will sink (unless it can balance on its nose or tail when in water)?
-
What is this depth referenced to – the reference datum, the bottom of the gear, the bottom of the fuselage, or what?
