Not possible to set a date prior to Jan 1, 1990

Version: 1.2.11.0

Frequency: Consistently

Severity: High

Marketplace package name: N/A

Context: When setting the date of a Mission.

Similar MSFS 2020 issue: It is possible in 2020 to set a date prior to Jan 1. 1990

Bug description:
When you setup a Mission with a date prior to Jan 1, 1990, it default to Jan 1, 1990, when you start that flight.

When creating historical flight, we like to stay as close as possible to the original flight.

The same bug was initially there in 2020 and was corrected.

Repro steps: Set a Bush Trip with a date prior to Jan 1, 1990 and fly it.

Hello @FsxRwt

Where do you read the date from after you started your mission?
Quickly tested on a Da62 bush trip and it worked on 1.2.11.0.

Sylvain

I guess I should have answered through this forum instead of email. here it is:

Thanks for the feedback. The date and time are set while creating the BushTrip. Could you tell me which Flight (Flight Number) you were testing? I just did a test for: “FLT076 Chap21 Baron First Flight”, and I got the same Date and Time that were set when I created the flight (see picture below), for both the Diamond DA62 and the Baron G58.

With the exception of historical flight, like the spirit of st-Louis or the flight over the English Channel, where it is the date and time of the event,. The Date and time is set to create the proper environment like Summer, winter, night, morning, evening weather, location, etc. It is part of the initial conditions.

However if you are using the FlightLog application that come with the package, it will be the Current local date and time of your flight run, updated when you hit the Start button, that will be logged . I just tested under MSFS2020 with FLT104, a 1909 Bushtrip and I did get the current date and time in FlightLog. In MSFS2020 the date and time was Jul 25, 1909, while in 2024 it was reset to Jul 25,1990.

I am surprise about your date, because in MSFS2024 Free Flight, I can’t set a date prior to Jan 1, 1990.

I see that you tried under MSFS2024. As most MSFS-RWT for MSFS2020 exercises will fly under MSFS2024, I can’t recommend it at the moment. Some aircrafts have changed names or have new version in MSFS2024, Navigation data is not always transfer correctly to the GPS and EFB.

I am currently converting all the flights to MSFS2024, and will make a new version for MSFS2024, when Microsoft make Bushtrip available again. I will keep updating both versions in parallel.

Sorry for the long answer. When I received the Forum Email, I assumed that it was coming from a user of my package.
The short answer is that even in free flight when I select weather to change the date, if I t try to get the date prior to Jan 1, 1990, I get 2089 for the year. When I set it in the FLT while creating a Bushtrip, if the date is prior to Jan 1, 1990, the year will default to 1990 but the Month and day will be ok. See attached freeflight example when I tried to move the date prior to 1990.

Through the DateTimeSeason FLT section, right?
That’s what I used to test it on an Asobo bush trip mission.

Please send us your mission that demonstrate the issue and I will have a look.

Freeflight is a different case, I don’t think our UI allows to set such a date.

Sylvain

Through the DateTimeSeason FLT section, right? YES

Freeflight don’t think our UI allows to set such a date. You are right it does not work in MSFS2020 either.
While this is not a major problem, I don’t see why not. It would be easy to permit to have the option of just typing the date instead of just scrolling. But as long as I can set it in the FLT, it is fine.

Attached is the requested Bush Trip.

Thanks again for the support, it is much appreciated.

Hello @FsxRwt

Ok so, following some changes on how the time is handled, the sim is now limited to January 1st 1970.
And the weather panel UI is even more restrictive.
Some rework is planned about this and I will update this topic when the changes are available.

Regards,
Sylvain

Both are restricted to Jan 1, 1990, in MSFS2024.
Only weather panel UI is restricted, in MSFS2020.
