Context: This affects pilots that care about the exact ‘sim time’ they’re loading into the sim. That affects glider pilots (we want to fly a common task at a specified in-game local time, not least because that affects the sun position and has a significant affect on gliding weather) but not sure who else.
Similar MSFS 2020 issue: MSFS2020 has the same issue but with a simple workaround (combined with a different jump-to-UTC-after-one-minute bug which makes our workaround essential). MSFS2024 doesn’t have the same workaround due to a small change in the clock UI.
(The UI/workaround difference with MSFS2020 is the World Clock UI element has a one-minute inc/dec capability supporting the mouse wheel. We glider pilots know to scroll that one click forwards and one click back just before we hit the Fly button, that will reset the in-game clock to the static time shown on the World Map. The mouse-scroll adjustment of time in MSFS2020 is great in general though so would be great if added to MSFS2024 World Map/Flight Conditions).
Bug description:
The pilot SETS the time in the Flight Condition menu, or the World Map. From this point on, the World Map will DISPLAY this time, even though the clock is still running. Say if the World Map clock says 09:00 when the pilot hits the “Start Flight” button. When the player enters the sim a clock in the plane could show (e.g.) 09:15, depending how long they spent in the Flight Conditions menu and the EFB app. This is not what would be expected. Either the clock on the World Map should keep updating with the time as the time changes, or the in-game clock should wait for the pilot to spawn into the sim. Either way the World Map time should match the in-game time when the pilot spawns into the sim.
Repro steps:
- The pilots sets the time on the Flight Conditions menu, e.g. 09:00 UTC
- maybe selects/adjusts weather settings,
- returns to the World Map which will display the time the pilot SET, 09:00
- but as the in-game clock is running this is no longer the actual time.
- On the World Map the pilot may spend time in the EFB, etc, regardless the World Map clock will still be displaying the time originally SET by the pilot in the Flight Conditions menu.
- A simvar watcher (or another simconnect app like NB21 Logger which displays local time) will show the actual LOCAL TIME simvar value showing the clock still running.
- Pilot checks World Clock, still says 09:00
- Pilot hits Start Flight button and enters sim. At this point this time is any amount later than 09:00, e.g. it can be 09:15.
