[Request] SDK Documentation Update

Hello there! I was wondering if it was possible to up-tier the priority of the documentation update with the new LODs values.

It’s still representing the old ones both in the Stable branch and Flighting Branch.

2 simple reasons.

  • When working onto any 3D modeling regardless of the area of competence, we do need those values, else it’s just trial and error, and eyeballing without proper starting numbers is a pain. That is the one most vital optimization method for 3D models and having to guess, is not a good way of working, especially when it comes to fire up the SIM with newly exported models everytime and find out our models get cut - off early or we have more room for details.

  • I wrote an add-on to simplify the LOD calculations straight in Blender, and so far I don’t have numbers to rely on to to make that add-on really useful. I was hoping for numbers after SU3 became a thing but never happened and we’re basically onto SU4.

Also, in the various communications we had, we have a mention to linear interpolation up to 100% screen space and non linear from 100 above.

Is it possible to know what kind of interpolation curve we actually have for +100 screen space values, so I can use that data to implement further and gain precision

Sorry for bringing this to attention but imho that’s one of the most urgent matters, at least in scenery making when having to deal with hundreds of handmade models which need balancing, optimization and proper LODs.

Thanks in advance

Bump,

Waiting for the Docu to be updated with the new interpolation limits

Thanks!

Can we have any official statement regarding this? We’ve been waiting since when the LOD limits have been changed but still no actual values has been released officially.

Would be good to have it written on paper, rather than seeing objects popping in/out and seeing our packages rejected during early testing

Hello,

We plan to document the new lod system but I don’t have any ETA (Likely after the end of the SU4 flighting).

Eric posted some infos in this topic.

Regards,
Boris

So, based on the known info so far, I went myself in-sim to gather the LOD limits from 100% Vert. Screen Space to 1000%, with 25% increments (sometimes less).

All with a ceiling of +/- a couple thousands verts for tolerance.

Here’s the graph, and below the raw data for the VERY HIGH QUALITY PRESET

Vert. Screen Space Max Vert. Count

250000 100

Hope this can be of some help (and it doesn’t change again with SU4  )

!!!NOTE!!!

All the values has been taken with a 2 decimal points precision. Meaning I spent 2 hours zooming in with precision and noting values. So yeah, they should be very precise

Bump, still waiting for docu update because

This:

Is still saying something different than this

And still missing the minimum 1000 vertices at 0.5

The whole LOD Selection System page will be updated with the correct figures in the next SDK update.

Best regards,
