Bug description:
When setting weather to Rain / Snow, is pretty frustrating since most of the time the rain is happening all around you, except above of your aircraft.
We as developers need a better way to force these weather condition since we require to test things we developing dependant of these factors, for example, landing distances, engine performance, brake performance, FADEC, visual effects, etc.
I am coding right now a BCU (Brake computer unit) and custom physics to simulate how the brakes would react to weather conditions and contamination on the runway, and of course, for testing I need to have the runway soaked in water, snow, ice, etc.
I am putting the weather preset manually to RAIN, Storm, Snow, etc. and 90% of the time what I do achieve is to receive rain few miles from the runway, instead of “ABOVE” my plane, resulting on runway staying dry as far as the core simulation knows (Simvar SURFACE CONDITION).
End Result? me trying to convince MSFS to put the rain above me, takes ages, sitting there waiting for this to happen at some point, etc.
I think as developer we need a different tool from the normal weather presets systems, something that FORCES RAIN up to 10nm around the user (including our current position), SNOW, ICE, etc.
So we can test our products properly, not only aircraft, but anything else we might be developing..
Repro steps:
Set weather rain / snow, note how most of the time, it rains around you, not consistent on top of the user plane / location, RAINS eventually stops and you cannot forced it again…
Best,
Raul
