Terraforming with photogrammetry

Hello, i am a developer that is working on Katl scenery. I am having this issue.

In atlanta area there is photogrammetry. The problem is when you try to manipulate the terrain with terraforming polygons/rectangles. The response of the terrain when you add a polygon/rectangles is very bad and unprecise. It is not possible to create sharp cliffs, or smooth transition between different elevations. The terrain respond with hard edges, artifacts etc. I have also tried to add a custom 1mt mesh to the entire airport surface; but even with the custom mesh, when you want to manipulate the terrain with terraforming, the response of the terrain is not related to the 1mt custom mesh but to the default mesh. So i am unable to create a decent mesh for my airport.

If i disable photogrammetry all the terraforming polygons/rectangles start to work as they should with high precision and smooth transition.

So the problem is related to the photogrammetry. Seems like the simulator (msfs2020 or msfs2024, is the same for both) use the default photogrammetry resolution even if you have applied higher resolution mesh or you have remove photogrammetry with a polygon.

There is some tweak to overpass the photogrammetry resolution even if i have photogrammetry enabled? As i have already said if i turn off photogrammetry everything works perfectly.

Or maybe asobo could improve/update the photogrammetry response when terraforming?

At the moment this is a huge problem.

Best regards,

Matteo

You’re dealing with the same problem as we do. Sadly, there isn’t any good workaround for this.

An update for this is needed badly.

Yeah, i read all the topics, it is a shame that they have not fixed this issue since 2020! Above all because is something very important, that can lead if a scenery can be developed or not.

Maybe some pc programmer can have a workaround for this? A tweak to overpass the photogrammetry? How did you do in your case?

There’s no good solution to this. Sometimes we just flatten around certain areas, or (I don’t like that one) avoid doing certain airports. With Lauderdale we’ve flattened the whole airport and made runway construction in 3D with collider. TIN data in this area was extremally poor. There’re some disadvantages of this, but so far that was the best one.
