Vegetation appear through buildings/objects

Hi!

Version: 1.6.34.0

Frequency: Consistently

Severity: Low

Context: In editor and package

Bug description: When placing single vegetation models in MSFS they appear through various objects. I suspect this may have something to do with object sorting/transparency (?).

You need to add an environment occluder, which will prevent them from rendering.

The downside is that it will also cut through fog, so only add it to the top LOD of your SimPropContainer.

We decided to use our custom objects. The solution with occluder is not satisfying to be honest.

Could this be added to the backlog?

Hello,

Tagging the topic as by design.

As @SWS-AlexVletsas wrote above, you will need to use a material of type environment occluder.

If you have a precise idea of what you want you can add this in the Ideas section.

Boris

So, to summarize:

  1. Vegetation is flickering through the buildings (sorting issue), nomatter if this is a single placement or a polygon with biome.

  2. This is by design, and occluders should be used which will cause another issues cuting holes through fog.

Default MSFS generated vegetation doing the same:

Regards.

Why would this be by design? What is gained from that?

It’s happening in PG areas to hide photogrametry blobs. Which is actually really smart for autogen vegetation. But the fact that it’s also done for custom vegetation polies is…. questionable. It’s not new and I reported it almost a year ago. It was promised to be looked at but nothing has happened yet unfortunately.

( Vegetation polygons unpopulated in 2024 and trees are not fixed - #6 by Boris )

Moving trees and trees seen through objects in PG areas are not the only issues when it comes to custom vegetation. A lot of things related to vegetation and vegetation polygons are not working as one would expect unfortunately… In this thread, I outlined the 5 most annoying issues custom vegetation has currently:

For what it’s worth, I’ve NEVER noticed this, and I plop trees and bushes all around my models all the time.

Well then I assume you don’t have scenery in Photogrammetry areas maybe? It only happens in PG areas so maybe that’s why you haven’t noticed it yet.

That would be the case! I have one planned though… the trees will just bleed through all of my buildings? Or is it dependent on materials used

No, it has nothing to do with Materials. It’s all due to the trees and how they act in PG areas, which is the underlying problem here.

So to answer your question: yes, they most likely will.

Hello,
I bumped the issue we already have in our backlog about trees in a tin zone.
I will let you know when I have some news to share

Boris

Hi! I have this problem too, so it only happens in TIN areas.
I was thinking maybe it can be fixid on side of our models by using deferent setting in MSFS Material Params like diferent alpha modes or draw order offser, but looks like nothing make difference - trees that are close to the models still renders through model

I have the opposite issue now. I have a blender model imported into the msfs2024 sdk, and im using a environment occluder for rain inside the building, and glass windows with rain effects. all looks good in Avatar mode but behind the glass in a planes cockpit im seeing the model shining straight through all of the trees in close proximity to the blender model. All is good except for this material bleeding through nearby vegetation issue. And ideas?

Hello @here

This is a duplicate of Custom Vegetation Polygon Trees Moving - [MSFS 2024] Bug Reports / Airport & Sceneries - MSFS DevSupport
It is being worked on.
