It would be very nice if the windshield and structural deice rate could be altered by a simvar insted of a fixed number from the systems.cfg
The curren on/off mode is quite limiting to simulate systems with different modes.
Also the structural deice needs the SET, ON, OFF Kvars, currently only the toggle is documented, the windshield deice has the full set.
Adding on to this request…
What would be really cool is if not only could the icing be controlled through a writable simvar, but if it could be indexed and linked to specific materials (or objects) as well.
In this manner, we could easily differentiate and control the level of icing (and deicing) of various regions for different purposes. For example, liquid oxygen tanks that, when full, cause a layer of frost to appear on the fuselage skin in a specific area. Or specific separate window regions with defrosting caused by controllable ducting and fans.
I can think of a number of useful and realistic effects that could be achieved with greater control over aircraft icing.
I just PWM the anti ice.
I wish we had an “ice accumulation rate” var. I have to constantly compare the ice state of the previous second to the current second.
Yep ,I ended up doing the same, but here is a tip, there are 3 ice buildup rates only , light, moderate and severe. They are flat rates, so if you measure them once, you don’t need to do it again.
I had to develop a full TKS anti-ice system with fluid flow rates so I did the measuring to PWM the ingame system:
Ice buildup rates:
Severe icing adds 0.1111 %/sec
Moderate is 0.05555 %/sec
Light is 0.01852 %/sec
