XBox/PC persistent sync issue: MSFS2024 on XBox refuses to open up, claiming it can't sync

Version: Latest retail

Frequency: Consistently

Severity: Blocker

Marketplace package name: TerraBuilder Kennedy Space Center Scenery

Context: Trying to test MSFS2024 KSC Scenery package on XBox, MSFS2024 won’t start on XBox.

Similar MSFS 2020 issue: none

Bug description:
Note:
This is likely more of a XBox/PC issue, not neccesarily an add-on testing issue.

This is a screenshot from my XBox screen. For a 2nd day now, my MSFS2024 refuses to open on XBox, claiming I have “sync issues”. As you can see in the message, it says I last played on April 4 on PC (Legion), but I played it on PC yesterday (April 5) and this morning (on Pc), with no change.

I tried everything suggested in Google searches:

Force Quit the Game
Clear Reserved Space
Power Cycle the Console
Log out of the Microsoft Store and Xbox App.
Restart PC (Crucial step).
On PC: Log back into both and launch MSFS 2024 to ensure data uploads.
On Xbox: Clear Reserved Space and relaunch to trigger a fresh sync

Nothing works. The XBox MSFS2024 is stuck on the screen in the above screenshot.
any further suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Repro steps: Playing the sim ON pc, then with the same account, playing on XBox.

Can you just not click continue from last cloud data? what happens if you click that?

The sim continues - but I don’t get changes and some saved files synced with the XBox, which is crucial to what I am testing. This sync issue needs to be resolved since the sim was designed to function with it.

Right what you trying to save? Using datastorage? There is a max limit.. wonder if you hitting it, causing the problem..

Thanks for the responses! For now, just saving some simple weather presets and flight files, but if by datastorage you mean “work” folder, yes, I will use datastorage in the future!

if you saving to work folders via WASM, that never sync between PC and XBOX.. via javascript using the datastore libraries, you can save to the MS user account cloud, and that syncs.. but it has a limit of data of what you can save, and be warned if you go over the limit, it will crash the user account cloud data.. and the user will need to reset it via very weird ways and tools or raise zendesk tickets..

so it is not recomended to store everything in the MS Xbox user cloud, as you run the risk to break things for the users.

There was an freeware add-ons recenlty which was doing this, it was saving all the map information of flights the user was doing to the MS Cloud storage, and lots of people ran into trouble, they lost all their settings, including their bind profiles, etc..

Hope this helps..

Ok, I really appreciate this info! But let’s back up a bit. The problem started with this screen:

This is in XBox - and in the upper left corner, it is asking me to specify which set of content do I want to test. In the lower left corner, it is “Waiting for authentication” and it is stuck there. The problem is, there is no method that I found to move a mouse pointer with the XBox controller, to “Accept” the default option “Retail” (as shown). Also, I was surprised to see this on XBox, because you can’t run dev mode on XBox. Or can you?

So - I thought this is being displayed because I left off my PC in dev mode - so I turned the dev mode off on PC, thinking the cloud storage will now save my settings with dev mode off.

But, the cloud storage is not syncing. So - this is where I am stuck at.

XBox has a USB port. Just plug the mouse in and select your option. It works

This options are available to we all 3rd party developers so we can test on xbox.

You will need to plug in a mouse, only way to change the option.

Best,

Aaaand that worked!! Thanks @SimbolFSReborn @HornetJockey685 !!!

And it seems as if the sync problem has resolved itself. :+1:

Now, testing the scenery - there are no VFX showing - at all. They work in MSFS2020 on XBox. But this is obviously a whole new topic.
