Context: AICreateEnrouteATCAircraft injected aircraft not switching to STATE_LANDING as they approach the destination airport
Similar MSFS 2020 issue: issue does not exist in MSFS2020
Bug description:
We’ve noticed a fairly common issue in MSFS2024 with AICreateEnrouteATCAircraft injected aircraft not landing successfully at the destination airport. Instead of switching to STATE_LANDING, the aircraft remain in STATE_ENROUTE_AS_FILED or STATE_TRAFFIC_PATTERN, make a low pass over the airport and either contact the ground outside the airport area and attempt to taxi back, or continue flying at a low altitude.
Unfortunately, the issue is not consistent or easily reproduceable.
This may also be affecting in-sim live traffic as well per some reports we’ve received, so the issue may not be limited to SimConnect.
Some sho their landing waypoint in the middle of the runway, while the one that landed had it waypoint on the touchdown zone marking - might be related?
Could be… I see some land too, but the sessions I’ve done so far its less than 50% success. The state not changing on those aircraft was the first clue I had that things were not the same as MSFS2020.
I have the same issue regardless of whether I am using the MFS2024 native AI traffic or FSLTL or AIG, In all cases, aircraft approach the runway at around 230kts and simply fly past at around 200ft. I’ve witnessed this at native MFS2024 airports and also 2 addon airports. Occasionally, aircraft will approach the airport at various angles other than the runway. Very frustrating.
I have made numerous and lengthy tests at various airports worldwide according to my UTC+1timezone here. My conclusion at this time is that the MSFS online traffic landings is doing better than the FSLTL ones. The Online AIs land much better than the FSLTL ones even if it’s far to be perfect, but the FSLTL AIs can’t for some unknown reason. In general the online AIs are approaching too fast but can make a good rate of descent and can make it. FSLTL AIs can’t in almost all cases because their rate of descent and speed are not handled properly, so the AIs overfly the airfield.
Screenshots are from my favourite airport LFPG where an annoying feature is that the ATC orders traffic to climb when approaching the ILS.
My tests were carried out at KDEN, FAOR, VTBS, VHHH, WSSS, LEMD and LFPG-LFPO.
I’m only talking about landings. The rest of the AI’s behaviour/ATC is so appalling that it is another story…
Unfortunately, your screenshots don’t show the issue this topic was opened for. Your screenshot shows aircraft in STATE_LANDING. This topic is about AICreateEnrouteATCAircraft injected AI aircraft not entering that state as expected and therefore not landing as expected. In-sim AI aircraft are not injected via SimConnect.
Asobo has marked this topic as bug_logged.
You might want to open a new topic here about in-sim AI approach speeds, etc, that you’re seeing. If the topic for this issue is being fixed in the future, FSLTL (and other SimConnect-injected aircraft) might behave closer to expectations when landing.
The title " [AI injected aircraft do not switch to STATE_LANDING on approach]" is indeed misleading. Anyway now that the bug has been logged it should hopefully be fixed in the near future. Speed and rate of descent are not good with FSLTL but I’ m not going to start a thread about that because I don’t really care. My interest, as a scenery add-on developer is that the AIs land and taxi to the gate. I’ve re-enabled AIflow/ground alongside FSLTL and it’s going quite well.
