I have a problem with the old .air file in my CRJ. I’m quite sure that it shouldn’t be required anymore, but when I remove it from the aircraft folder, aircraft.cfg and project definition XML (it’s listed as an additional file under |), the model doesn’t show up in the list of aircraft anymore. In other words, there has to be some dependency to the old .air file anywhere. However, it doesn’t seem to be documented and console log errors don’t help.
I would love to get rid of it as I doubt that it’s of any use, so any hint would be welcome.
Can you filter the console messages on “CRJ” to see if errors are flagged during the initial loading of the aircraft? I suspect you have a mandatory parameter that is not defined in the CFG but is provided through the AIR file - there are still a few things like this in the code which date back to FSX. We need to make an inventory & document these.
sorry for the late response. Busy times. We managed to get rid of the file, but unfortunately, this happened alongside a major rework of the flight and engine models. It seems that if certain parameters are missing or incorrect (i.e. mis-formatted tables), MSFS uses the .air files as a fallback.
There have been no messages in the console log whatsoever. The fallback happens silently.
