[CTD] FiberError causing crash

Hello, all. Several of us have had a very curious thing happen, and always
almost at the same time. It’s very odd. The last time this occurred for the
team was mid-April. Today my colleague Henning could not start MSFS. It gets
halfway through the progress bar and then just dies. Sure enough, I go to
start MSFS today and the same thing for me. It was working just fine
yesterday. My CrashReport.txt file says this is due to a FiberError. The only
way to fix it that we know is to completely reinstall the sim. I see by
Googling for “MSFS fibererror” that this is something of a common error, but
no one seems to have any better solution than to reinstall the whole sim. Are
you aware of this problem, and do you have any ideas why it happens? Any
better suggestions on fixing it other than a reinstall? Regards, Chris

Hello @cbpowell Thank you for providing the crash report. It’s forwarded to
our developers for investigation. Regards, Sylvain

Rather than completely reinstall the sim and all its data, I tried some
experiments. None of these things made a difference:

  • Uninstall and reinstall MSFS in Steam (without deleting the major packages dir)
  • Delete rolling cache
  • Delete Packages\Community
  • Delete the various config files in AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator
  • Delete the folder under DCE

However, this action did help:

  • I deleted the following folders under Packages\Official\Steam
    • fs-base
    • fs-base-genericairports
    • fs-base-ai-traffic
  • …and then let the sim re-download these (about 9 GB).

After I did that the sim resumed working fine with no more FiberError.
