Extending Wear & Tear Systems

Hi,

I’ve been studying the new Wear & Tear system that’s been integrated in 2024, and I have some questions about the intended useage for 3rd party modules.

So far as I can tell, damage accumulates in one of 2 ways:

  1. Linearly over time
  2. With collision damage

While this makes sense for external components like landing gear, it leaves alot to be desired for internal components such as engine oil, coolants and so on. It would be excellent if 3rd parties can extend on this to add deeper logic - for example, I want oil quantity to be depleted faster during overheat or high power conditions.

Is there a pathway that allows us to do this, or is it planned for the future? Are we expected to extend the system, or simply replace it with our own? I am wondering if walkaround features and career expenses can be tied to our custom systems, or if they MUST be used with the default integration.

Any clarity you can provide here would be extremely helpful.

Thank you
Dan

Hello

Can you tell me is it possible to have wear and tear work in free flight. As far as I can tell it is not persistent outside of the career. That is unfortunate.

I can’t really understand why is that feature left off for free flight. There should be an option for users to enable or disable it.

My statement isn’t going to answer any questions, but I do want to boost @FlyBoy’s perspective on Free Flight. My biggest joy with flight sim was buying planes in MSFS 2020 that utilized random failures. I would set it to the MAX to test my metal and knowledge.

With MSFS 2024 I only do FREE FLIGHT and there’s no real danger in flying the plane. I’m checking instruments, checking fuses during flight, but deep inside I know there’s no reason. It takes the fun out of the high-stakes adventure of flying an airplane.

I was hopping that Just Flight and A2A would quickly get their planes compatible with MSFS2024, but if API’s are this simple that would explain why the needle hasn’t moved for 3rd party developers.
