I’m trying to improve a rough bush airstrip in the sim (500 meter long grass strip). However, as soon as I add a runway, it flattens the uneven terrain underneath. Is there a way to make the grass runway follow the contours of the underlying terrain? I’ve tried pretty much everything and couldn’t find anything in the SDK either.
I would love this too.
I don’t understand why when placing a runway without terraforming, and falloff set to -1, the underlying terrain gets affected.
It should place the runway on the existing terraforming without any new deformations.
Note that runways will terraform the land that they are placed on so that they are on an even, flat surface.
Since it flattens out the area a bit you can use the “profile editor” to add different points and elevation along the runway. I think you can set the fallout to 0 or some other small number and then use the Rectangle object with it’s profile editor to create the side trenches.
I think in this scenario it’ll be a lot of trial and error. Show us what this runway looks like to give us a better idea of what you’re working with.
As you mentioned, why should we have to do that work? All the data we need is there, although we do need a way to “mow the lawn” to a reasonable height.
If we have to do that work, how do we get points from the underlying terrain to use (without having to use a notebook and measure all the points by hand one by one and add them back in)?
A script where you select an area and it returns an xml file would be cool.
