Forked 2020/2024 Product Submissions Possible?

We would like to continue updating our products for MSFS 2020, while also taking advantage of the new features available for MSFS 2024.

Will we be able to split our product updates between the two versions of MSFS to allow customers remaining on MSFS 2020 access to new product features?

To clarify, this is for marketplace submissions.

don’t know for sure but in Content Browser menu label MARKETPLACE was changed to 2020 MARKETPLACE, so my guess two separate tabs will be there - for 2020 and 2024

Hi, I’m not sure if you are referring to just the SDK perspective or the Marketplace, but as far as I am aware, the answer is yes to both.

They stated in yesterday’s SDK developer stream that you can have both the 2020 and 2024 SDKs installed at the same time, and they have made no announcement about any kind of end of life for the 2020 SDK (and I don’t expect one in the near future, either).

As far as the Marketplace is concerned, we know from both the FSExpo presentation in June and yesterday’s stream that the Marketplace 2024 ingestion process is separate from the 2020 process.

The stream yesterday is what got me hung up on this thought. They were showing that we should verify 2020 products as working with 2024. Maybe this is just for the initial release of 2024 and I misunderstood. We use fstreams in wasm and from what I saw about streamed content that type of file I/O will not work for 2024.

Rewatching the stream I can see the separated MSFS2024 and MSFS2020 products listed in the My Library section. My biggest concern is hopefully we won’t have to charge customers again when making a 2024 version of the 2020-based aircraft that uses the new sdk.

Oh okay, got it.
I don’t want to pass myself off as an authority on this, because I’m not, but this is my understanding:

  • You verify products for the 2024 Marketplace if you want them to appear for purchase in the 2024 Marketplace. That is your choice as a developer.
  • Once an upgraded product is in the 2024 Marketplace, it on a separate update path from its 2020 counterpart.
  • Anything in the 2020 Marketplace will be left untouched and continue to be updated however the developer chooses.
  • This one I am 100% certain about: Per the MSFS 2024 FAQ (see “Owned MSFS 2020 Content that has been Upgraded for MSFS 2024”) , it is up to each developer to decide whether they want to charge for the upgrade to MSFS 2024 or make it free.
