FS2020 FS2024 Source and Bugs

FS2020 and FS2024 are separate versions of releases, are they on separate source code repositories? If so, are all bugs logged here and fixed in the FS2020 source be fixed in the FS2024 source? No existing fixed bugs will appear in the FS2024 release later in the year?

I don’t work for either companies, but I am a software engineer. I guess is most likely 2024 is in a different repository. Whatever bugs they have in 2020 has probably been identified by the product managers and UX teams and tagged as something to consider moving forward.

They will probably have a support team managing 2020, but all priority will switch over to 2024.

Hi ProjectPolygon,

Are you referring to the SDK or the sim as a whole?

For the sim as a whole, like tabletopANDROID, I imagine that there are different repos. They are very different codebases, with 2024 hopefully making a clean cut from FSX.

Regarding the SDK (which is really what we should be talking about in these forums), the team has stated before that addons developed for one version should almost always work with the other. (I’ll add the caveat: “At least for now.”) So therefore, I have to believe that most of the code for the SDK will be identical. Ideally for Asobo, it’s the same SDK code for both, with exceptions here and there to deal with differences between the two versions, just as there are exceptions to deal with the Steam version and the MS Store version. (Or maybe, a little more than that…I’m expecting new things available in the 2024 SDK that would not be available in 2020. But still, mostly the same.)

That being said…

I wouldn’t go that far. My guess is that they started work on 2024 not too long after the release of 2020, and therefore, they would have forked the code a long time ago. Anything they share in common would have to be maintained and work in both, and they have a lot more telemetry data for MSFS 2020. I’m expecting a smoother launch of 2024, but I think it is unrealistic to expect perfection.
