We have a scenery title out on Marketplace, and we are in a testing stage with XBox version. Everything is working as it is supposed to, and all the assets are showing properly, BUT, there is an issue on XBox only, and I am not sure what is the cause of it.
The issue is, after flying for a while in the scenery, the custom 3D assets we have (both Model Lib and SimObjects) stop loading their higher LODs. Basically, as you approach closer, the 3D Assets should be loading more details, but after a while, they do not. There are no problems like this on the PC side of things.
So, I am not sure if this is the XBox specific issue, or issue with our scenery. Do any of the XBox users out there have experience with third party software, and have you experienced any issues similar to those above?
ALL of our 3D assets have at least 3 LODs (if they are simple 3D buildings), and some up tp 6 LODs, if needed. Also, textures are not exceeding 2K, of which we have very few. Actually, most of our buildings are designed with materials that use default ASOBO textures (which are excellent) - we alias the default textures that are already mounted in VFS, so the texture memory should not be an issue.
So, I am at a loss on this one. Aside from MSFS2020 SDK docs, are there any guides on “do’s and don’ts” for XBox? Any docs on XBox optimization?
Any help or input would be appreciated!
[EDIT] We do have a few assets that use 4K textures (4096 x 4096). I have seen some comments in developer forums that 4K textures are hard on XBox and should be avoided. Is that correct? Can anyone confirm this?
