Is icao_type_designator readeable in SimConnect? if not, Asobo, can you make it redeable?
I consider it is important, because when you want for example to do a match check between what the pilot is flying (EC45) via simconnect and what the 3 party software (desktop or web) expects to receive (B738).
all aircraft that I have been able to check have their icao_type_designator correctly in the aircraft.cfg, but according to the documentation it is not a value accessible through simconnect. ATC TYPE I think it has nothing to do with icao.
Ah I see. Well I cannot imagine what else ATC TYPE is intended to be for. The docs don’t really say what it is meant to be beyond “type used by ATC”. To my mind, wouldn’t that typically be the ICAO type code that ATC would use?
The problem with many of these free form values is that people often are left with vague descriptions and thus don’t really know what to set them to or how to utilise them best. I would dig around to find examples of it in the wild but I am away from the PC right now.
I believe this value is/was also the “type” shown in multiplayer name tags, or at least was in 2020. Can’t say I paid much attention to whether 2024 shows it there.
Still if there is a blatant value in the config that is consistent for the icao type code then consider my vote with you on having a way to access that!
Yep. For that icao_type_code they do but notes “it can be different” to atc_type if you look up the ATC TYPE simvar it just says “type used by atc”.
