Is "Check For Updates" long wait a real problem for everyone else as well?

Good morning-

this has been an issue in the past but it’s becoming a very real problem for our development team lately, as 4 out of 5 times we’ll launch MSFS, we’ll be greeted by a never ending “Checking for updates” screen in Installation Manager.

Is everyone else also having this issue, or should we consider something on our end? Is there, possibly, some way of disabling the “Check for Updates” as we just want to continue with our development?

Thanks!

I appreciate this, @ProjectPolygon - I guess the real question I was asking was if we could somehow disable this checking in dev mode only, as it really hinders our development process…

No. It’s a mandatory check to ensure the right version of MSFS is installed on your machine.

in Steam version you can enable offline mode to block MSFS from internet, so it will skip update screen quickly.
I do not experience such problem atm, but several times in the past I did.
next time please make the title more relevant to your question, let’s keep this forum professional.

Apologies for the title - I edited it to reflect the proper issue.

You should be also able to enable Offline Mode also in the non-steam version ., but that is not a Solution, only a poor Bandage …

What is still needed is an explanation or these “RANDOM” long periods of Checking Updates, and a way to prevent the associated very long delays when loading.

A poll has been released by the Community team in the main forums regarding this issue:

Yes, our team also run into this frequently. It is extremely random and very frustrating. Can sometimes sit on that checking for updates screen for 15 - 20+ minutes then the sim continues to load. Not a very productive system for our developers when you restart the sim multiple times per hour.
Killing, restarting the process, reboot the PC, reboot the internet router, non of that works. I believe it is an issue at the MS/Asobo server/network side.

The same here, seems the program is hanging. Stopping and relaunching solves the problem to me.

If only it was a single time. For us, sometimes we have to restart the sim 10-15 times before it goes past the Checking for Updates screen.

I’ve had this a lot lately and found that if I kill MSFS through Task Manager then exit Steam, MSFS starts normally every time after that. Maybe Steam is holding a file open or something?

What helps me and my Collegues is going to the microsoft store and manually check for updates in the microsoft store.
I figured lately there are updates pushed to MS store several times per day such as gaming service or several xbox apps i have never seen before.
It helops me every time and so far everybody of the team even thought they said at first they dont have updates. Be sure to push tje button to search manually for updates.

As soon as you see the checking for updates message, toggle your internet on/off. e.g. by disconnect/reconnect WiFi, or unplug/plug ethernet cable. This skips the check and lets you get back to work.

Never had a problem with checking for updates - the only ‘time it takes some time’ is when there are updates to be downloaded & installed. Otherwise the notification can be there & gone in a flash.
Note that this is not on the Steam version of the simulator: Steam may well be involved in any delays.

You may turn “data/online” switch off in the Settings every time you quit, then you’ll start quickly, and then turn that switch on when you ready to fly.
