Jet engine now surges since last update for 2020 aircraft in 2024

Version: 1.2.11.0

Frequency: Consistently

Severity: High
(Low - quality of life, workflow optimization, rare enough to not impact production, etc…
High - critical but workarounds are available, important feature not working as expected, frequent enough to impact production
Blocker - prevents from working on the project, prevents from releasing the product)

**Bug description:Since the last update customers are reporting a weird surge with our Learjet35A engine rpm. They describe it as a surge. And you no longer can fly as you can’t get enough thrust before it starts to behave weirdly. We found with other jets too it’s right at 80% N2 it fails. I have a video to share. This was not an issue on the prior version.

The MSFS2024 Beta 1 this is working properly. So, I suspect this is already a known fact and getting fixed. I was not aware of this bug until yesterday from some customers as they must be using the non beta version.

We have worked out the issues. We changed the fuel version to 4 and this broke the fuel flow. So we are going to put this back to latest. But the modern fuel system has some transferring issues using this tag. I think the beta 1 fixed this. So you can mark this solved.

[FUEL_SYSTEM]
Version = Latest

Hello @Flysimware

This is potentially the same issue that was reported here: [FS2020 port] FUEL_SYSTEM lines to engines drain - [MSFS 2024] Bug Reports / Aircraft - MSFS DevSupport

The fuel simulation rate was incorrect on older fuel system versions.
This was fixed in beta SU1 as you noted.

Instead of Version “Latest”, please use “6” which is the default MSFS 2024 version.
Latest could introduce unwanted behavior change on a future update.
Version 6 is missing from the editor and documentation, I’ll make sure this is fixed.

Regards,
Sylvain

Hi @FlyingRaccoon,

Using 6 in 2020 breaks our save state for fuel and fuel is burning from the center tank. This tank does not supply fuel to engines and can only be transferred. We keep getting offset tanks when we try to load a save state fuel using a first load. We had to put it back to “Latest”. So we plan to test this in 2024 and report back as we are stuck for now.

6 is 2024 only.
Lastest on MSFS 2020 is 5 then.

Hi @FlyingRaccoon,

Ok will use 5 and after we test for 2020 and will expect the next 2024 sim update to use 5 as well for BC aircraft. Is that ok to assume? The goal here is to have it working for 2020 and BC aircraft work in 2024 for free flight.

Yes, that’s how it should work.
And if the fuel system behaves differently on 2024 with the same version number, this can be reported as a bug.

Hi @FlyingRaccoon,
For 2024 this was posted from a friend yesterday.

Turns out that the fuel burn got fixed with SU1 but it was just the animations being off. So the actual operation of the plane got better but the Animation is now what went sideways…

So sounds like the operation is good and the animation is not.
