Lights definitions type NONE are faulty

Version: SU14 and SU15

Frequency: Consistently

Severity: Low

Context: Devmode and fully installed

Bug description:
Lights configured in system.cfg with type 0 are not working in accordance with the SDK instructions.

The SDK states that a light type NONE can be controlled by the potentiometer, however if you attempt to do this, despite of setting the potentiometer to 100, 200, etc. the light effect never fires…

In addition it should be noted that lights types 4, 10, 11 and 12 also ONLY illuminates the interiors of the aircraft and never the exterior.

Repro steps:

Configure a light in system.cfg as type 0, set the potentiometer to 100… note how the effect never fires. If you change the effect to another type, and turn on that light, then the effect works… so clearly there is some issue with types 0

This represents a problem when we want to create effects no attached to circuits or lights, as a work around I had to put some effects attached to type 9 (logo lights) and 7 (Recognition) and create circuits, enable the circuits and all sort of works just to fire 2 lights I wanted… which are related to other effects and not aircraft lighting.

So it would be ideal to get this resolved in the future and get type 0 working correctly or even better, support lighting also with the new VFX system which we still unable to do…

Thanks in advance for looking into this.

Raul

Hello @SimbolFSReborn

Documentation is incorrect.
There is no external light type that isn’t tied to an existing circuit.
As far as I can tell, “None” is an invalid type and cannot be controlled in the sim.

I have logged a bug so that documentation and tools are updated accordingly.

Sylvain

Hello there,

We have also spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the “None” type for lights was working. Unfortunately, we realized after many trials and errors that this type simply does not work. So, like Raul, we used other light types for some custom lights that are unique to our model.

For example, we needed an extra light type for a door entry light. Because this type of light does not exist in the standard list and the “None” light isn’t working, we used the “Logo” light as a workaround.

It would be nice if there were extra customizable light types in the lists for lights that are specific to an airplane, like our entry lights, or map lights, luggage compartment lights, passenger reading lights, etc.

The “None” type that could be attached to a custom circuit was a good idea from the start and we would have used it in our model. Instead of simply eliminating the type, it would be very useful to make it work with additional customizable circuits or create additional customizable light types/circuits.
