A friend of mine, an experienced scenery creator, introduced me to SDK today, but we have struggled to create polygons on my system. I did everything according to the documentation:
I selected “Polygon” at the “Objects” menu
I clicked on “Add”
I pressed and held the Ctrl key while frantically left-clicking onto the scenery
In my 2nd attempt, I first tried left-clicking onto the scenery without pressing the Ctrl key, then I held Ctrl and left-clicked a few spots
However, as you can see in this video, no polygon has been created:
I rebooted the PC and reinstalled SDK (version 0.23.1), but this hasn’t solved the issue. I have been trying for hours, is this a bug or rather an issue between the chair and the keyboard?
My workflow is to select the Polygon, from the Objects menu. Then when you see the little red cross, click CTRL, keep it held down throughout, and left click with the mouse to make your polygon points. When you’ve made a few corners [ all the while keeping CTRL pressed down], you can finish / complete it by pressing Enter. It should then create the red polygon. The polygon has to be in the form of a closed rectangle, closed polygon. [ie, it has to be complete/ all edges joined, to show up].
Guys, I feel like I am losing my mind, I have done EVERYTHING you have told me and I still see no polygons! I only see that initial red cross as seen in the two videos I posted above.
I feel like this might be a bug. I have done a bit of digging and found this guy having the exact same problem: SDK doesn’t react to my left clicks and yes, I keep holding CTRL (tried both left and right CTRL), the “One-click” box is checked and I am left-clicking.
As advised in this post, I have tried the following:
Create a new project and start from scratch
Use the US English keyboard layout and delete any other languages
After making my first point, click on the top of the Scenery Editor window to switch it from black back to blue
Reinstalled SDK (version 0.23.1)
Could some of you please look at the videos I posted above and suggest what might be wrong?
It seems like your CTRL event is captured by something else,
If you have any input peripheral other than your mouse and keyboard, try to disconnect them
I watched the video. I see both CTRL buttons are active when pushed. But only the LEFT-CTRL will place the vertexes. The RIGHT-CTRL does nothing. The question is why both are active?
That’s just the way the default On-Screen Keyboard shows a CTRL-key press. The left and the right CTRL-key always seem to be pressed together, despite me pressing only the left one.
I have also tried pressing only the right CTRL-key, that didn’t help either.
Try changing your keyboard, i know it sounds basic, but maybe its a hardware issue and not software. You could also go into yiour windows keyboard or your brands app keyboard settings and make sure there is no conflict regarding the Left/ Rt CNTRL key.
So I have tried my wife’s keyboard which is wireless (my keyboard is wired) and I had the same problem with making polygons – I can’t create more than one point.
I went into the Windows keyboard settings, but I am not sure how to check for conflicts, because there doesn’t seem to be such an option. I only use English (US) as my typing language. My keyboard doesn’t have its own software, it’s a rather simple mechanical keyboard.
I have exited all other applications which could potentially monitor a CTRL-press, that didn’t help either.
Maybe check in MSFS own control options for the Keyboard, and choose ‘scan by input’, click on Left CTRL and check in case it has been bound to something that is conflicting ?
been having the same issue and i have found no solutions. (matches your video, really recommend not using links that expire though, like with your first video)
i can place a singular dot.
i can create a line by right clicking the thing in properties and pressing subdivide, but i am unable to move them in any way, other than the whole polygon which is now just a straight line. (this is not helpful at all)
been consistent through reinstalling the game, windows, and hardware upgrades throughout the years. I’m really lost.
Yep. I am still having that issue. I would love to make pretty sceneries, but that’s impossible without a functioning CTRL key. Let’s hope that it works in MSFS 2024, I haven’t tried yet.
