PLEASE let us exclude roads/road materials

This absolutely destroys the visual fidelity of any airport involved. Detailed, pretty ground that looks good up close seemed to be a big focus with this sim… this is a glaring hole in that.

Context:
When editing and when built packages are loaded

Bug description:
The smaller roads (and edges of the larger roads) do not change color with the seasons, so they stand out among the terrain as very vibrant green and destroy a lot of the immersion… but the worst part of that is that a couple of the airports I am working on have these phantom, non-existent “roads” running right through the middle of them. There is absolutely no way to exclude them, similar to how I was affected in my previous post about the outlines of default airport surfaces still showing.

The one in the example here is a two-fer, affected by both problems: A random un-excludable road, and since they relocated and extended the taxiway here you can still see the outline of the old one once removed. No way to get rid of either of these things.

Repro steps:
This is specifically at KPSK, but you can see the effects at airports all across the region, and the bright green roads littered everywhere in the fall and winter seasons.

Agreed! The road debugger shows the OSM road being excluded, but the green material remains. I may be mistaken, but I thought this green material was being excluded just after release. Something changed since then.

Yes, seeing the same behavior with the OSM road gone but the material left behind, both grass and asphalt types. Being unable to exclude those materials handcuffs us from being able to work on ground layers with any kind of precision.

Confirm the issue is still active in the latest beta

it is not really specific to Airports, it affects mostly all the roads in the World (except some categories like “tracks”)
It is indeed obvious that the green colored tracks are following the osm vector data,
so the Polygon → Exclude Roads, as per the description provided in the docu, should remove every part of the road “Enabling this option will exclude any roads and traffic”

a colored polygon/apron can mask them, but of course the coloration would’n match all seasonal chages

WORKAROUND!

A polygon with the material set to “runway_grass” from fs-base-material will remain invisible but also overwrite the road material.

Doing this also appears to get rid of the phantom asphalt in the other post I made a while back, that was not being overwritten by the custom aerial.

Apparently this has something to do with this topic too

Whenever something is placed over and OSM road, even if it’s included, these weird shapes are drawn.

I finally found the material in 2020 too, the problem just is that it will overwrite asphalt detailmap and replace it with grass, even if the priority is lower than the one of the asphalt apron. I think this is basically the same trick I have always been using anyways just with a different material. to get rid of the OSM stuff in 2020 a grass apron set to 0 opacity worked fine, and still does. It just causes these atrocious artifacts in 2024.

So, I don’t know how you are going to do it (Asobo), but you need to find a solution as these artifacts make the scenery not “releaseable” for 2024. They look horrific and I don’t even know why this would be caused. How is it even possible for those exact shapes to appear? How can an underlying OSM road (which has already been removed in 2 ways because with the way it should be removed it doesn’t even get removed…) still cause issues like that. And why is it only happening in 2024 and not 2020?

Please, this must be fixed!

The exclusions should now work on roads in SU2 (currently in flighting).
Can you tell us if this is fixed for you ?
