Please update the Blender exporter

Are your PRs being accepted? I see you are among 8 contributors according to Github, but it was my understanding that most of the Asobo repos for MSFS aren’t open to unofficial contributors? I was wondering if you are shown as contributor by simple virtue that you have forked the repo?

I was a contributor early on, for the initial blender version that was brought over from the legacy exporter. My “suggested” PR’s are reviewed. Some are have implemented.

However the corporate mindset has a more closed approach - lets say.

I thank ASOBO for providing what they have. Again, I expect them to release for Blender 4.2 LTS and hopefully they will continue with this in MSFS 2024.

Somewhat unrelated, I’ve been trying to use your version of the plugin, but I keep getting the error “MSFT_Tesxture_dds is not available with this addon version.” Any idea how to get around that?

You cannot import a compiled gltf with either Ron’s or Asobo’s exporters.

First - Please report any issues with my version on my git site. Do not use the ASOBO dev hub, as it would be inappropriate, thanks

Second - I don’t recognize that error - is it miss-spelt?

If you are importing - agree with rhumbaflappy - my exporter and the ASOBO exporter will not import MSFS gltf files

Just to let you guys know, I use his Exporters. I am like his test driver for them. I am building planes presently in Blender Beta 4.2. That is how far advanced RonH is.

Hi everyone,

I can’t help but wonder how we went from “we have other urgent topics that have priority over this right no” to “the Blender Exporter is low priority for Asobo”.

Just to clarify a few things:

  • Yes we do use 3DS Max internally, which explains why the 3DS toolchain is more advanced than the Blender one - there’s no conspiracy or deliberate choice against Blender…
  • We will probably update the plug-in to Blender 4.2 LTS but maybe not on the day it is released - do you really need to use the latest version as soon as it’s out?
  • PRs need reviewing and we have one person working part time on the Blender exporter (she has tons of other things to do) - apologies if things are not going fast enough for some of you.

Best regards,

Eric / Asobo

I apologize for misrepresenting your statement.

Thanks for the recent update to the exporter. Today

Hello Team Asobo,

I am experimenting with exporting scenery objects into MSFS with your Blender Exporter, 1.3.3, and do not seem to see how you export the XML and GUID files with objects, scenes in the newest version exporter.

On a video in YouTube yesterday, an exporter around the time of Blender 2.8 shows 2 tick options to export XML and GUID’s.

Perhaps its here and I do not see it? I looked in the side slot options window in Blender 3.3 and didnt see it there either.

The Multiexporter (open by pressing N) has the .xml options

Hi @LyonHaart001,

To be able to generate .xml for your models you need to use the “objects panel” of the “multiexporter” view. To do so, press N, you should see it appears in the right side of your viewport. You can refer to the blender plugin documentation for more information: The Blender Exporter
