Projected Mesh placed on anywhere else than concrete or asphalt will engrave in to the ground

Similar MSFS 2020 issue: not an issue in 2020

Bug description:
If a Projected mesh is placed anywhere else than on concrete or asphalt the projected mesh is engraved in to the grounds.
In my sample i am using the ProjectedMesh i am using for the eSTOL Stol field made out of lines and a text logo which is placed on a grass, gravel or sand surface as a projected mesh.
It will engrave in to the grounds so that it is not usable for STOL Competition.
This did not happen in 2020

Repro steps:
create a gltf with some lines or use the one i attached

Looks like all Devs will be telling customers to switch off displacement mapping.

Trying to bring this all together in one thread, hope this helps:

I can confirm this issue has been fixed in version 1.0.84.0.
Thank you so much for looking into this so quick and fixing it… :heart:

Hello @ANN0V

Version 1.0.84.0 introduced a first fix but issue persisted on projected meshes used outside of the airport perimeter, which is now fixed in 1.0.86.0.

Sylvain

Hey Silvain
I was just testing the scenery where this poped up first and where it was fixed with 1.0.84.0 and it seems with 1.0.86.0 it came back again.
not as bad as it was at the beginning but it still sinking in to the ground.

also the 2020 terraforming polygons seem not to have an impact anymore

@FylingRaccon
Hi Silvain
Since this topic is considered as fixed, should i open a new topic or will you look in to this problem again?
The current Sim Version 1.1.10.0 the problem is back in the state where it was in the beginning of dev Alpha.
I created a new 2024 scenery package and loaded in the GLTF for the mesh.

It can not even be fixed with a terraforming rectangle or polygon.

Hello @ANN0V

No, I will simply reopen the ticket so that we keep the history.

@darwikey FYI

Sylvain

Hi @ANN0V,
The projected mesh flatten the secondary heightmaps only for FS2020 packages. It was to avoid backward compatibility issue, but it is really inaccurate, it flattens a large area.

For new 2024 scenery packages, you need to manually add a polygon that cover your projected meshes and apply “exclude secondary heightmaps” to it.

@FlyingRaccoon , @darwikey
@Xavier. Thanks so much. I just tested that and it works perfectly.
@Silvain. Sorry to bother again with it, while the solution was presented on a silver plate.
Thanks so much, guys for all the work you do.
Best regards and happy holidays. Hope you get some rest too.
