Bug description:
The new cliff mapping really looks great in most areas and adds a lot of depths to the landscapes - something there MSFS2024 really shines!
Given there is no description about this yet in the SDK I wonder what controls the actual cliff mapping and/or materials used. What brought up this question initially is that I’m working on a huge glacier where the cliff mapping looks out of place naturally:
Real thing:
In MSFS2024 with highres heightmap applied:
Next I checked if the cliff mapping changes color with underlying imagery and it does (good!):
Helgoland/Germany, should be red-ish and it is to a degree:
Cliffs of Dover: No blending white but looks good enough:
It becomes obvious that while the cliff mapping looks impressive, it doesn’t look realistic for ice landscapes. Given the fact that the rock coloring seems gradually change with underlying imagery, I imagine just adding an “ice type” to the cliff mapping would cover most scenarios and would also add a lot of realism to sea ice cliffs.
