Having aircraft thumbnails appear in the World Map seems really hit-and-miss, even for the stock MSFS2024 aircraft.
Can I confirm which file in the package is intended to be displayed on the World Map?
For 2024 there’s a mention of a thumbnail folder but I’ve missed any reference to what goes in there or where the thumbnail/thumbnails will be used.
For a 2020 package in MSFS2024 it seems the thumbnails defined in the 2020 package aren’t used at all? Is that right?
There’s probably some odd streaming shenanigans going on, here’s the sequence I see loading into the sim, changing aircraft, and reloading the original stock aircraft.
Our simplest 2020 plane is the Schleicher K7 and with the easy aircraft.cfg object_class = "Glider" added property it appears in the MSFS2024 Aircraft list (Glider section) happily with its 2020 thumbnail.
Hence the question - is this “by design” for 2020 planes or is it something I could be doing differently in the 2020 package? In general I’m expecting to decant all our planes into the 2024 project structure so this will probably become less of an issue, but I wanted to clear up a possible technical misunderstanding.
Thanks EzRyder for you answer and B21 for your question.
Fortunately there is a dedicated forum to try and learn technical points on this new simulator.
Bravo for the community that posts içi and promotes mutual aid.
I am not sure it is wise to add this to your 2020 packages - when we end up fixing this thumbnail in the world map and it uses the 2020 default thumbnail, this added file won’t be useful anymore.
