Sound Issue - Since recent MSFS Update - Certain sound volumes are not loaded correctly and only fixed on view change away and back

Hi all, PMDG sound guy here. I took a 4 week break - came back and updated
MSFS. Since then this issue has started happening with 100% repeatability for
me. It is affecting a certain small set of sounds in the 737. Load 737 >
switch to wing view - you can clearly hear the whine of the fuel pumps Switch
to cockpit Switch back to wing view - the volume of the fuel pumps whine is
completely different compared to the first wing view visit. Here is a video
showing the exact problem:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QIimlio1a6YL2JwwLJLF0TbF2v7DRD6n/view This
issue is also affecting a small number of other sounds - for example our main
wind sound layers - the volumes are unstable until you change view and come
back. I loaded the 737-700 - I haven’t touched the sounds on this model in
many many months - exactly the same problem. To me - something seems to be
broken in the MSFS Sound System - though I could be wrong. Im using an old SDK

  • maybe this is a factor ? Thanks in advance, Armen PMDG

Hello @PMDG-Armen Just to be sure, since you mention the SDK version, do you
witness the problem when using your aircraft with the usual unedited PCK file
or in the context of debugging/editing through Wwise? If just using the
previous version of your aircraft outside Wwise editor context produces the
bug, it can be a bug on our side. What version are you seeing this issue on so
I can check against previous version? SU11 or AAU1 flighting? In any case, you
want to update your SDK if you are doing additional edition. Regards, Sylvain

Thanks for the reply. I made some further tests. The 737-700 PCK was built in
May 2022 and the issue can be reproduced in that aircraft build. Internally
in our team we have also reproduced it with other developers and builds. In
theory, you can reproduce it with all our 737 versions released to public. I
think it is unlikely to be SDK related but possible - the issue is present in
very old and new PCK builds - seems to affect all builds we have ever made.
The flipside to this is, maybe it is SDK related, and we have to update all
our old aircraft PCK files … but I hope this is not the case, and
challenging to get all of our legacy releases rebuilt with the new SDK -
because I presume there should be backwards compatibility of using older SDK
compiled PCK files with the current MSFS version. I am using the latest MSFS
version non beta version - I only use production MSFS versions and do not
participate in the beta test programs. I cannot be too specific but the issue
wasn’t present about 5 weeks ago. I am waiting for the end of the 737 project
to update the SDK as it is too risky to do so now, and very likely after
further analysis not to be the cause of these issues. Since the issue is
happening with all our aircraft, old and new, I am presuming this is an MSFS
bug. Thanks again, Armen

Want to clarify a few things. Also the video is not playing after signing in.
Are you jumping to showcase fixed camera then to cockpit pilot camera and back
to showcase fixed camera? Just as a test I did the same on our FSW C414AW and
turned on our fuel pump sounds and the sound remained the same. Or are you
using a cockpit quickview for the wing view? This does sound like a camera
conflict but I wonder what your code looks like and if you used any RTPC for
this whine. Can you post your sound.xml fuel pump code as this may help to see
if any issues there. For example this is our code.

The NodeName=“WING_LEFT_SOUND” is where the sound should originate from and
could play a factor in this issue. Try changing this.

Hmm - strange for the video link - its set to public access and no need to
login. Here is a download link instead:

I am using “Showcase” to access
our custom view, then switching to “Cockpit” on the top right, and then back
to “Showcase” to cause the issue.

This is our sound.xml entry:

Not sure if this is a factor though - after the view change - the sound does
not disappear, but its volume is changed. This code type runs many of our
custom sounds and has been these since our first release in MSFS - DC6.
