[Suggestion] Allow frequencies to be edited / added

Working in smaller airfields I find no frequencies specified for them at times. One I was editing today has documented Unicom of 123.2 but there is no “frequencies” in the editor.

Adding the XML manually results in the website rejecting the file as “malformed”. Fair enough.

But I think we should be able to correct such oversights as well.

I find this, among other limitations of the world hub (no buildings/hangers), mildly demoralizing. It feels like we can only do half the job.

One big problem – and I’ll also reference this problem when I log a future feedback item – is that if I were to submit an item to Zendesk or the main forums about a frequency issue, it goes into a black hole, never to see the light of day again.

There are many bugs that simply get ignored, either because the team is overwhelmed or they simply don’t care about the little bugs…maybe it’s a combination of both. There have been times when I have given the exact thing to change: “Change this line in the blah-blah-blah.cfg file” or “Edit this value in the .locPak files” and they don’t get done. And I can’t begin to explain how aggravating that is and how unimportant we, the end users who care, can be made to feel when our bug reports get ignored. Having the ability to change this, ourselves, would be a great way to put some of that control back on us.

If you’re a real pilot, and you’re flying in an area where you know the frequency for such-and-such, and it’s wrong in the simulator, or that frequency isn’t there, that can be an immersion breaker. If you’re flying in the sim for proficiency and it’s wrong, that can also be an issue. Please give us the ability to change frequencies.

The one caveat I will say with all of this is that I don’t think sim pilots without flight training understand the importance of current charts. When you take pilot training, it is drilled into your head that you need to use current charts. I can’t speak for other countries, but in the United States, if you go to your practical exam with out-of-date charts, that’s a recipe for failure. I bring this up because a sim pilot without real-world experience could easily find an out-of-date frequency and submit that to the World Hub. If this were to be implemented, I would expect that the moderators would have access to current charts for the world in order to approve them.
