While testing some functions that use the Surface Type simvar, I discovered it will not report snow or ice below the aircraft when using live weather. However, it does report correctly when using weather presets.
I also looked at the Surface Condition Simvar and it does something similar, not reporting Icy or Snowy as a condition on live weather, but will if using a preset.
How are you able to get an icy asphalt runway using a weather preset? All I can get are for the Surface Type simvars are 0 (normal), 1 (wet), or 3 (snow).
I have tried rain conditions with the temperature set to below freezing (all the way to the minimum temperature the slider will allow, snow conditions with snow depth set to zero, and stormy conditions with the same temperature adjustments I tried for the rain condition.
Also, is the Surface Info Valid simvar working? I have never seen it to have a value other than zero (with either live weather or a weather preset), which to me would mean that the simvar Surface Condition value is never meaningful.
