Hi everyone,
TLDR: we have discovered potential flaws in the way the new “empty_inertia_tensor” parameter affects flight models and have decided to disable it in SU3.
As some of you had noticed in the SU3 1.5.1.0 release notes, we have been working on a new « empty_inertia_tensor » parameter in « flight_model.cfg », which aims at properly modeling the inertia (MOI) properties and their effect on aircraft dynamics - Andrey provided a complete explanation on how to use it and how it works.
The feature was tested extensively prior to being released, but we carried more advanced tests after the release and discovered at least one significant issue (related to drifting on the landing gear) that needs addressing before the parameter can be safely used by everyone - other unforeseen issues may exist, which is why even more advanced tests are currently being run.
As a consequence, we decided to deactivate the new parameter in all future SU3 builds, including the final one - but we aim at fixing and reactivating it later this year. If you were already trying to adjust your aircraft using the new parameter, please keep your current CFG in a safe place until it can be used again - do not send packages for ingestion that use this parameter since the behavior of your aircraft on the end user’s machine would be completely different from what you tested on yours with builds supporting the parameter.
We apologize for the inconvenience but this seemed the safest move to make right now.
Best regards,
Eric / Asobo
