Use of Actual Coordinates to Place Nodes vs. Matching Aerial in Sim

With other simulators, I’ve been used to placing nodes/objects using actual coordinates found with Bing Maps, USGS aerial Geotiffs, or some other mapping. Per comments/feedback, however, it seems we are to match placement of nodes of Aprons, Taxiways, etc. with the aerial photo in the sim. In some cases, it seems the aerial in the sim is not the latest as Bing Maps, for example, may have a newer aerial.

I have read that the accuracy of Bing Maps is about plus or minus 1.5 meters. How “accurate” is placement in the sim? Is this why it is better to “match” than to use coordinates? When new aerials are available and used to update the sim, are they matched so that an apron placed using the earlier aerial will “meet” points on the later aerial?

Is there any time we should use coordinates to place nodes (maybe parking spots?)? Or is everything good with just trying to match the background photo? And should we ALWAYS match the aerial in the sim or use a newer aerial if available?
