As per title, is this in the future plans? will our customers be able to select one of our aircrafts via the 2024 library and switch from streamed to local install?
The reason I ask is because lots of my customers are asking for this, I do recall seeing this somewhere during Q&As at some point, but I am unable to find that option currently.
Just trying to get guidance towards how can I address users concerns and how to respond.
Would be possible to NOT stream a package bought on the Marketplace ?
If an user bought two different products covering the same Airport in MSFS 2020, it seems they are both streamed automatically in MSFS 2024, possibly causing issues.
Yes, “My Library” will allow to download an aircraft (or any other package) locally to avoid having to stream it. I am not 100% sure on the ETA but I think it should be before Christmas.
Of course we initially planned to have this option available for launch but didn’t manage to achieve it - apologies for the inconvenience.
I’ll have to check with the team in charge (obviously I can’t right now since it’s Saturday) but I believe My Library will allow you to activate/deactivate packages - so in case you have two add-ons covering the same airport, it will allow you to choose the one you want to use.
I just checked but, the MyLibrary interface doesn’t seem to do anything other then let you check things. It lets you select/deselect packages, but there is no way to uninstall or install any of the marketplace packages.
For example, I have the following MSFS 2020 packages in the “Not Installed” category:
If I open any of these packages, for example “asobo-airport-eham-amsterdam”, it says “Not Installed” and there’s only one button “More options”. It has two options, “More Info” and “Open Marketplace page”. “More Info” says “this item requires the following item(s) to run, fs20-asobo-modellib-textures”, with only a Close button. Marketplace page says it’s coming soon.
So, it doesn’t seem to be possible to install or uninstall any of these.
However, I have the MS Atr which I bought in MSFS 2020, which is instead listed as “Streamed”, but it also cannot be deselected.
Sorry for not being clear enough: My Library will allow you to do so once we have fixed it - I need to check if this is scheduled for the same update as the local install process.
If the files are downloaded rather than streamed, will the FS Base airports and navdata files still be encrypted? Presently, apps like LittleNavMap that allow viewing of airports and their data offline do not work, because those files are not local in MSFS2024.
The total airports/runways data is only ~10MB. I.e. no bigger than a single jpeg. Given the way MSFS2024 was struggling (and failing) to populate the Departure text fields on the World Map in my first 4 days of MSFS2024 I’d suggest that info is a super-prime candidate to finesse out of the streaming pool AND pre-load it into memory as soon as the user enters the sim.
fair enough - I was referring to the airports names, locations, runways reference data that’s used in the sim & imported by Little NavMap. We also use that data to display MSFS airports on our custom nav planning app for gliding.
