BGL AI Traffic Disabled

Version: 1.0.72.0

Frequency: Consistently

Severity: Blocker

Context: All of our Vessels Regional Sceneries in all loading contexts.

Similar MSFS 2020 issue: N/A

Bug description: BGL (i.e. old ‘AI’) boat/ship traffic seems to be disabled in this build. There is no way to enable it under the ‘Traffic’ settings. Most of our products use these in some way to create additional leisure traffic. Will they be enabled in the release? We can’t currently give a green light on our releases.

Repro steps: Load into a flight with e.g. Vessels: The Balearic Islands. Only a small set of of ferries (that don’t use the BGL method) will show. The many leisure and commercial boats that are included in the scenery will not be displayed.

Doubling down on this report; BGL-based aircraft AI traffic does not work either; no aircraft spawn using bgl legacy spawning. It may just be a build limitation but worth mentioning.

@Boris @FlyingRaccoon is BGL based AI traffic going to be available/supported in MSFS2024?

Should be, can not see why not.

There was traffic folder places allready with .bgl´s, but AI OFFLINE traffic method was disabled in first alpha.

Hello @SeafrontSims

Isn’t this what your seafront-livingworld-vessels-globalshipping package is based on as well?
Because this one seems to spawn a lot of ships as expected.

Do you still have the issue with version 1.0.84.0?
What is your Sea Traffic setting set to in the Global Rendering Quality section if the graphics settings?

Regards,
Sylvain

Thanks for looking into it Sylvian. I can confirm that I am using Ultra for the Sea Traffic and the latest version.

I have done some more testing…

Global Shipping
Your correct. I can see some but not all ships spawned in with Global Shipping on 1.0.84.0. The issue remains with Azores and other sceneries. Sailing yachts and small motorboats are supposed to appear between Pico and Horta and off the Coast off the airport at Ponta Delgada but they are not appearing. The odd thing is that Global Shipping and Azores use exactly the same method for those boats. My concern is with our regional sceneries at the moment.

Inconsistent Loading
There is a loading inconsistency too. With Global Shipping I can load in at Gibraltar and there will be 24 boats loaded in (some of them ours, some real-time AI) and then I can End Flight, and without changing anything go back in at the same time and location and there will be 70 with the additions being real-time AI (tagged as NPCBoatNetBoat).

More examples
I have also tried the Vessels: UK South East which contains a lot of BGL sailing yachts and motorboats between the Isle of Wight and Southampton. They are not loading in fully. Just a handful. And I have weird effects like this with one boat inside another on the same route:

Many of the BGL routed boats have multiple boats and routes in the same BGL file. I wonder if MSFS2024 is only loading the first boat in each file?

Any of the WorldScript boats we have added are working as expected.

Will it help if I create a simple example BGL and send it over for testing?

Hello @SeafrontSims

Forwarding your feedback.

Definitely, if you can create a dedicated package with a fixed count of boats spawned to a known location, etc… a very well defined expected result will help us track the issue.

Thank you.

Sylvain

Hi Sylvian,

I’ve just forwarded a test project ‘AsoboBugHunt’ as requested to you and PrivateContent.

There are 6 small boats on a circuit around île aux Oiseaux (Close to home for you). I’ve added a POI AsoboBugHunt.

Expected behaviour:
To see the small leisure boats travelling around the island (any time of the day they will be travelling). Here is a screenshot of them from MSFS2020.

Actual Result:
None showing in MSFS2024. Only the default live ship traffic.

Thanks,

Chris

Is AI OFFLINE traffic disabled (msfs2024) by asobo?

In steamapps\common\Limitless\Packages\fs-base-ai-traffic\scenery\world\traffic

There is file called trafficAircraft.bgl and it should be over 30mb sized. But for me it is empty of flightplans and sized only 2kb.

Copying 2020 version of that file doesent work, because it uses 2020 planes.

There is no mention that ai offline would be didabled at launch of 2024, so this might be a bug.

@FlyingRaccoon where does this sit currently?

Hello @SeafrontSims

No progress on this.

@FlyingRaccoon - I just noticed this typo that could be the cause of the BGL AI Traffic bug?

“AllowAbientVehicleTraffic” instead of “AllowAmbientVehicleTraffic”

I’m using 1.1.10.0

trafficAircraft.bgl is still only 2kb. I contains only MSFS2020 aircrafts, but not timetables or airports.

Hi @FlyingRaccoon - How is this progressing? Is it something that is likely to be fixed or should we assume that BGL-based AI traffic is deprecated?

Thanks,
