Some Terraforming Rectangles are now unusable/uneditable

Version: Simupdate2Beta

Frequency: Consistently

Severity: Blocker

Bug description:
This is my terraformed rectangle

If i edit it in any way(move any point, or move the rectangle itself) all the points instantly snap to this

Seem to be only happening with the longer rectangles. My shorter don’t seem to be doing this.

Repro steps:
Add a rectangle and try to

@Boris I edited the rectangle and it snapped closed as shown above, i stretched it back out and tried to save the project. It said something about a corrupted xml. I went into the xml to see if removing the rectangle from there would fix it, but the xml was wipe clean…empty. Thank God i made a backup yesterday. I swapped out my project xml and i’m getting out of this beta for now, atleast until i finish this project. I don’t understand what’s going on here.

Hello @SLH

Was this a one-time issue, or can you reproduce it consistently?

We will need your project to investigate further.

@Boris I just sent the private content. I went out of the beta but the project was crashing the sim, so i had to come back to the beta and yes it’s still snapping closed. I haven’t tried to edit it after the snapping closed and save again because i didn’t want to corrupt this xml again. But i expect the same corruption to happen.

@Boris @SLHJust a thought since this is also cause by rectangles: could be somehow related to this?

Maybe… Its Very weird. It literally corrupted and wiped my project xml and swapped out the xml for a back up i had and now it won’t open in the SU1 version of the sim. And if i export the airport package now It crashes the SU1 version of the sim every time i try to open the sim. Which means i can’t release it like this.

Hello @SLH

Did you create your terraforming using the profile editor or by hand / another tool in the xml ?

Regards,
Boris

I was able to reproduce the same behavior and have logged a bug in our backlog.

As a workarround you can use the “Current Point Settings” section to move your points instead :

It’s likely because you edited and saved with the bug your package using SU2.

Open your xml and remove the Rectangle that start line 5466 or replace it with the good one in your backup xml.
Now you can open your project in SU2.

Due to changes between game versions, you should avoid saving a project in a newer version and then trying to open it in an older version.

This can lead to various issues, such as:
Properties or objects existing in SU2 that do not exist in SU1
Possible crashes (CTDs)
Potential project corruption…

Always try to work with your projects in the same or newer version they were last saved in.

Boris

I did it using the profile editor

Thanks for the info. Yes I had saved the backup xml in SU2 before going back to SU1 the last time. So I tried again without saving this time and I got the project working again in SU1.

Posting this here instead of a new thread since these rectangle terraforming issues all seem to be related. If I try to edit any of my rectangles, after I click with the brush just once the rectangle dimensions change and completely mess up the elevations. The same happens even if I uncheck and recheck the new Force elevation option.

Undo is not possible. The only option is to hit “Load this asset group” or close and reopen the project to start over from your last save.

Hello

Are you using the SU2 flighting ?

Can you send us a project that reproduces the issue please ?

Hey Boris,
Yes, this is in SU2. I have sent the project to PrivateContent. Thanks!

Chris

Hope this issue gets resolved. I am seeing a lot of terraforming at OIII (3rd party scenery by Homasim), OISL (third party scenery by Alkee), and even on default airports such as OIBP. No issues with SU1, just SU2 including the latest update.

This issue is not resolved in 1.14.10 (despite release notes showing that it is fixed). In fact it’s even worse than 1.14.9. No such issue existed in SU1. See the following screenshot from OIII (by Homasim). Significant terrain issue by the runway and throughout the airport.
